Eric Morrow, Montana

Captain Eric Morrow, Bozeman, Montana

We met Eric Morrow in Alaska. He was our Captain on the Alaskan Dream Cruise, an innovative, streamlined catamaran, a small cruise vessel, with a casual jeans-and-sweaters atmosphere. Eric shared his insider’s knowledge on the 13-day cruise spotlighting scenic beauty, amazing wildlife and intriguing native culture. We lingered in the midst of a pod of foraging, spouting, breaching whales, and got up close to thundering tidewater glaciers and stunning wilderness. Eric’s enthusiasm made our cruise even more rewarding.

Eric Morrow (1970) currently lives in Bozeman, Montana. He enjoys the outdoors and spending as much time as he can seeking out opportunities to explore all the earth has to offer. His favorite analogy is: Life’s journey is like a river; while stepping from stone to stone we occasionally can slip and get wet. However it is the slip that allows us to step to the next stone to dry off and look forward to the next…

I feel very honored he accepted the “6vitesse-on-tour”- interview with inspiring people all over the world.

Here we go:

ERIC, WHAT DOES “FREEDOM” MEAN TO YOU?
Freedom is the ability to be an individual with a moral to embrace others for who they are without prejudice or jealousy. Most importantly, enjoy being alive!

WHAT DOES “FRIENDSHIP” MEAN TO YOU?
The most important human development is to have friends. To honor, trust and respect another person is to me “friendship” in the purest sense.

WHAT DOES “SUCCESS” MEAN TO YOU?
Success is achieving a sustainable existence with in my means, all the while with an emphasis on truly being positive and happy.

WHO DO YOU ADMIRE MOST IN THIS WORLD?
My parents for all the hard work and sacrifice they endured to allow me to have a positive upbringing and the guidance to become a positive and honorable adult.

WHAT GIVES YOU ENERGY?
The earth gives me energy for without our planet none of our “worlds” would exist. It is energy that if we all remember we are a combination of the earth’s life-giving forces, we might be less prone to its misuse.

DO YOU HAVE A DREAM TO ONE DAY FULFILL?
To sail around the world is a dream I have had for as long as I can remember. Hope to embrace the voyage with open eyes and truly experience all of the earth and its inhabitants.

IN WHAT ARE YOU A TALENT BY NATURE?
Meeting people and leaving the encounter with a positive outcome. I enjoy the interaction and initial contact with others.

WHAT DO YOU RESPECT MOST IN THIS WORLD?
I respect the diversity of nature and all of the earth’s inhabitants. An example of such beauty is a breaching whale lit by the waning lights of a beautiful sunset.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GROW AS A PERSON?
I need the love and companionship of a life partner for to spend time with someone is truly a culmination of life on earth.

WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER. HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED THIS?
I have lost love after a wonderful relationship with a beautiful woman. Our love drifted apart, though in the end the respect and friendship prevailed. I truly believe that a relationship is 95% friendship and without a solid foundation a relationship has no chance for success.

DID YOU ONCE TAKE A LEAP AHEAD BY TAKING A SMALL STEP BACKWARDS? HOW?
I stepped away from a successful career as a carpenter in Montana to pursue a career as a captain. Leaving Montana at first was difficult; I spent the first season in Alaska as a deckhand and naturalist to accumulate recent sea time to obtain a license as captain. It was a choice that opened up a wonderful career and a new frontier.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE MOST IN THIS WORLD?
Greed, for it is the root to evil and disdain in our world. As inhabitants of earth, we are fortunate to experience life with the freedom and ability to explore, make friends, love and enjoy time alive. If greed is allowed to prevail and become a focus, our lives become clouded with mistrust and selfishness.

WHAT IS MOST PRECIOUS FOR YOU?
Most precious to me is the mind’s eye-the ability to appreciate beauty, colors and to be able to interpret the sights beheld to my mind through my own eyes.

IS THERE SOMETHING YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO BUT NEVER DARED TO?
Skydiving would have to be an opportunity I have always wanted to do. Free falling to the earth is a thrill that scares and exhilarates me.

WHAT DRIVES YOU? WHAT ARE YOUR VALUES?
I am driven by the pursuit of positive experiences and finding true happiness. Finding a balance of hard work and having fun. My values are similar: to be a positive influence for myself and to others. Keep a strong moral compass of respect and caring for everything that I do.

WHAT MAKES YOU TICK?
The ability to remain engaged in life with a focus of a genuine caring for my time and the time I share with others.

Thanks Eric, your participation is a real added value to the project! I am glad to have met you. “Life gives us brief moments with another… but sometimes in those brief moment we get memories that last a life time…”
